About our Department
The department was founded in 1969, and in 1984 began to offer a master's degree.
The growing utility of computers in research and education, as well as the increased impact of computers on our modern society, strongly implies that a knowledge of computers and their capabilities should be a part of the basic education of all students.
The Computer Science Department's undergraduate program at The University of Montana was accredited by the Computer Science Accreditation Commission (CSAC) of the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET), a specialized accrediting body.

Our Mission
The Department of Computer Science then has a two-fold mission. First, to provide appropriate non-major courses to meet the needs of all students, and second, to offer a major and minor for those students who want to pursue a career in this discipline. The objective of the undergraduate major/minor curriculum in computer science is to develop professionally competent and broadly educated computer scientists who wish to pursue professional careers or graduate studies. |
