CS 171 Summer 2001
Assignment #5 - Newsletter
Due Friday, June 8
Objective: To gain experience with margins, columns, column
breaks, section breaks, Clip Art, Word Art, Text Boxes, object properties
and Views.
Use Word to write something entertaining, such as a story for a child,
your future retirement speech, or a funny story about something that happened
to you. This text should fill approximately half of a page.
Be sure to read through the details below before you begin.
This assignment consists of four parts. Details:
-
The entire assignment should consist of one page
-
Set the document margins for left and right to 1.0 inch before you begin.
-
Part 1: Using the text described above, create 2 columns
that use approximately 1/2 of the page vertically. The columns should
be approximately even on the bottom. (Hint: insert a column
break.) The columns should be 3 inches wide with .5 inch between
them. They should be fully justified. Insert a line between
the columns if you'd like.
-
Part 2: Use a text box to create a title or heading for the
columns above. The text box should be 6.5 inches wide, .5 inches
in height, have a border and fill. The text inside of the box can
be any font you choose, but should be dark enough to read with the fill.
White space should exist between the text box and the columns below.
-
Part 3: Below your columns of text, type "Have A Great Summer".
Change the font so that this statement occupies the entire width of the
page, but does not break onto two lines. (You will need to insert a Section
break between Parts 2 and 3)
-
Part 4: Below Part 3, Insert a Clip Art object and a Word
Art object. Practice changing the size of the objects. Right-click
on each object (including your text box object from Part 2) to explore
the available options.
-
When you are finished, toggle between Page Layout and Normal View to view
section breaks, column breaks, etc.
