DASL Facilities
In addition to the general research facilities available through the
University and the Department of Computer Science, DASL has its own workstation
cluser, currently evolving from 2-3 year old IBM RS/6000's
to new Intel/Solaris workstations.
DASL also has a cluster of Macs, used primarily in image and
multimedia processing and preparation, along with an assortment
of scanners, TVs and VCRs, audio/video acquisition/creation hardware, CD burners,
etc.
All DASL staff also have access to the CS Department facilities, which
includes about 20 new Intel/Solaris workstations, laser printers,
and color laser printers. Though the other research labs with which
DASL collaborates, staff also have access to film recorders,
large-format "production quality" electrostatic plotters,
special commercial image processing and GIS software,
a large database of remotely sensed datasets, and other
assets.
At a more mundane level, the DASL lab also contains a microwave, coffee
maker, and refrigerator (and when not in use for serious video work,
rumor has it that the TVs and VCRs often get connected to the University's
cable feed).
