Course Description:

In this course we will learn:

-         Basic concepts of data management using spreadsheets and databases

-         Basic and some advanced functionality of Microsoft Excel and Access computer applications

-         Standard terminology used in spreadsheet and database applications

-         Good design principles and practices

 

The course will focus on hands-on use of the two named applications, including in-class and homework assignments.

            Scale: 90-100   A         Pass

80-89     B          Pass

            Exams: 4 exams, each worth 15% of the final grade, for a total of 60% of the final grade. The final exam will be the 4th of these four exams, and will not be cumulative. The final exam is scheduled for Monday, 8am-10am, December 13, 2004.

            Assignments: 25% of final grade. Approximately one graded assignment per week.

            Class participation: 15% of final grade. Roll will be taken.

 

Late Assignments: Late assignments are not accepted. Discuss potential problems ahead of time with the instructor.

 

Missed or late exams: Exams cannot be made up, unless discussed with and approved by the instructor before the exam.

 

Profanity and Obscenity: Profanity and obscenity on submitted course work receives a zero. Profanity or obscenity in class will result in the student being asked to leave.

 

Dropping the class: Instructor will not approve drops after these University deadlines:

            With Refund: September 20

            Without Refund: October 11

Collaboration: All course work should be completed individually, without collaboration.
