Design Studio 1995-96

Welcome to the Design Studio Home Page!

Design Studio is a three-semester course in which those students pursuing their Master's degree in Software Engineering get to be part of a software development team. As members of this team, students apply what they have learned in their pre-requisite courses (Software Systems Engineering, Software Design, and Software Project Management) to a real-world project.

The current Design Studio team is creating a tool which supports Watts Humphrey's Personal Software Process. The tool tracks time, defects, and estimates, and produces reports, statistics and more accurate estimates. While the tool is not ready for release, the team has completed the first three PSP levels. Feel free to contact Joel Henry if you have any questions or would like to be a beta test site.

The academic year (95-96) witnessed the Design Studio teams (one at ETSU and one at Oak Ridge National Labs) develop two Windows-based project management tools that integrate Albrecht's Function Point Analysis with Barry Boehm's COCOMO model. Both teams worked long and hard to produce a quality product in a short period of time, and did outstanding work.

One piece of the Design Studio process is advertising. The two teams involved have created their very own websites to promote their products and to provide internet users access to distribution packages for their products. The ORNL team has named their product COSMOS (COSt MOdeling System), and the ETSU team is calling their product SEAT (Software Estimation and Analysis Tool).
