Student Employment & Internships
The Computer Science department would like to encourage all students to participate in at least one internship experience during their academic career. Internships are a great way to prepare for the job market by gaining real world experience. Learning to communicate well with others, to take as well as give direction, and to integrate oneself into a business culture are some of the valuable experiences that will give you an edge in today’s competitive job market. The following is a guide to the Department Policy on student internships.

General Internship Information:
• 50 hrs per credit (6 credit maximum)
• Internship Courses must be taken sequentially (198>298>398>498). Students are not allowed to take the same level twice.
• Undergraduate Internship credits will not be applied to graduate school requirements.
1. Check for internships at www.umt.edu/studentjobs (and click on Griz e-Recruiting), in the Internship Services office, Lommasson 154, in the Kaimin Help Wanted section, or on the bulletin board (located on the third floor of the Social Science Building). You may apply for internships advertised by Internship Services for which you are qualified or you may develop your internship opportunity.
2. When applying for internships advertised by the Internship Services office, bring your completed application materials to their office, unless directed otherwise on the position announcement. DO NOT SEND YOUR APPLICATION MATERIALS DIRECTLY TO THE EMPLOYER.
3. After you have been accepted for an internship, pick up a Learning Agreement At Internship Services office. Complete the top portion and have your employer complete the middle portion. Please print legibly and fill out the form in its entirety. Be sure that you and your employer both sign the bottom of the form.
4. Meet with Mike O’Conner (SS401) to review the Learning Agreement and to determine the course and number of credits for which you may register. Our office will then forward the Learning Agreement to the Internship Services.
5. Register and pay for the internship credits as you would for any other course (Griz Central or CyberBear). Internship credits must be registered and paid for in the same semester that you have your internship.
