The Department of Computer Science seeks to develop professionally competent and broadly educated computer scientists who wish to pursue professional careers or graduate studies. With access to the latest in technology, esteemed faculty instruction, and smaller class sizes, students are endowed with an unparalleled learning environment. There exists a tremendous need for experts with the ability to synthesize technology with today’s globalized society, and our program teaches students to design, implement, and maintain this technology by providing a sound theoretical and practical background on computation and computational systems. The University of Montana Department’s of Computer Science welcomes students from all walks of life, with a student body spanning the generations from throughout the world.

Featured Student | Dan Lande

Dan's research focuses on using Bayesian Networks to analyze protein sequences from Human Immune Deficiency/Feline Immune Deficiency (HIV/FIV) infected hosts. This analysis aims to discover unique regions in the protein sequences that may lead to structural differences in the folded protein. These regions can then be further analyzed to investigate the effect they have on the resulting symptoms. Dan is also an active French Horn player, participating in the University Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Missoula Symphony Orchestra, and several chamber groups.
